Going back to Haiti March 31, 2011!!

Dear Friends/mes amis/meszame,

Tomorrow, I will drive to NY to get ready for my flight from JFK direct to Port au Prince, Haiti. I will collect the supplies that were shipped in advance and travel with the van up to the orphanage, where I will be staying. I will be posting photos and updates from my travels, to keep everyone up to date on conditions in Haiti.

Check back often to my blog!  One last thing.... THANKS to all the people who supported me, financially, and with advice and encouragement!

Goodbye for now and thanks! Au revoir et merci/aurevoirmerci!
Mariam
ps. I will post some photos from my last trip, and I hear the kids are excited for our reunion!

Update — Going Forward

Dear Friends/mes amis/meszame,
This update is to share the exciting news that I am planning another trip to Haiti to volunteer at the orphanage, Foyer Evangelique, in January!

Also, Wednesday, October 13, at 2:30 at BUHS, I will be showing slides from my recent trip. This slide show is for the student-run group, CLEA (Child Labor Education Action), so they can plan fundraiser for the orphanage.

There will be fundraisers planned in the next few months and we have a list of supplies that we are collecting to bring down to the Foyer Evangelique, as follows:

Pencils
pens
razors
shampoo, soap,
toothpaste
brushes
toothbrushes
combs
etc.
basically, all the things we take for granted here. Call me at 802-451-6357 if you have any questions, or want me to come speak to your school, etc.

SAVE THE DATE: Friday, November 5th, 2010, during Brattleboro's monthly Gallery Walk, there will be a fundraiser at the Hooker Dunham Building lobby at 139 Main Street.

One last thing.... THANKS to all the people who supported me, financially, and with advice and encouragement!

Goodbye for now and thanks! Au revoir et merci/aurevoirmerci!

The angels

Out for a walk

When there is no electricity the kids like to hangout outside and dance and play other fun games. Who needs video games in order to have fun???

Yoland and Lovely drawing in my room. Drawing was one of their favorite activities

Rice and beans for lunch

Come eat with us.

I'm back

Hi Everyone,
I didn't have access to electricity and email all the time in Haiti that's why I wasn't able to post anything. Here are a few pictures.
This picture was taken When my kibbs was leaving. It was a sad day for all the kids at the orphanage.

Headed for Haiti

Hello, Bonjour, Bonjou

This blog was created in Dede Cummings office on Tuesday, June 29th 2010 to let my family, friends, co-op workers, and supporters know what I'll be doing on my trip. I'll do my best to post because not everybody is fortunate to have access to electricity and computers.

Here a link to article about my trip and work at the Orphanage Bon Samaritin in Marmalade Haiti, which is around 130 miles north of Port-au-Prince. The town is in the mountains. I will publish a few photos I found online and a map, so my readers can see where I will be staying and working with the children.

I am excited and nervous about this adventure, and I will be bringing lots of supplies and presents for the children.

Thanks to all! Merci! Mesi!
Mariam
